The ITRI Biomedical R&D Animal Facility was established to support Taiwan’s biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries, in alignment with national biotech development policies. It provides a high-quality animal housing environment and technical services to advance R&D capabilities in both academia and industry.
The facility primarily supports ITRI’s in-house biomedical and medical device research projects and has been AAALAC-accredited since 2011, ensuring compliance with international animal welfare and laboratory standards.
In addition to animal housing and care, the facility provides preclinical study services and technical platforms for drug development, including:
- Pharmacological efficacy testing using various disease models
- Safety and toxicity testing
- Histopathological analysis
- Hematology and serum biochemistry testing
The facility is functionally divided into a public area, a pathology and biochemistry laboratory, and three animal experiment zones:
General animal experiment area
Clean/isolated animal experiment area
ABSL-2 (Animal Biosafety Level 2) area
Each zone is environmentally isolated with independent access control. A non-invasive in vivo molecular imaging system is also available for experimental use.
